So I've decided that I don't want to get into the games industry any more because I'm just not passionate about making games or making art in order to get into the industry. I feel that It's going to get me nowhere and the level of where I need to be is WAAAY off to what my capabilities as an artist is.
I really do wish I quit after the first year of university because it really feels like a waste of money. £2something thousand pounds down the drain. For what, me to realise that I don't want to do this? BAH!
My advice to anyone wanting to go into the games industry? Teach yourself, or go to a college. If you teach yourself and you love every step of developing yourself as an artist, or a modeller then that's great, you have a real chance. And if you go to a college then they'll teach you pretty much all you need to know about developing games, without the MASSIVE debt that you'll end up getting at the end of your course.
Don't do a degree specifically do games design at university because getting a degree in games development really won't get you anywhere. Games degrees aren't actually recognised by the video games industry at all. If two people went to a games company for a job, one of which with a Games Degree, and one who has a decent portfolio of concept art, models, or whatever. They wouldn't even consider the guy with a degree because they have nothing to show. Sure, they have a degree showing that they can do all of the stuff but do employers really know that this person is really passionate about games? If said guy has a degree AND good portfolio to back it up then would he still have a better chance of getting into the industry over someone without? I don't know, I really like to think so but I really doubt that.
Another thing about the particular course I did; There wasn't much in terms of educating us on how to build a game. It was really designed for someone who was already quite adept at using the industry relevant programs and had a keen eye for art. A lot of the people on my course didn't have either. Including myself to be honest. I did have a good eye for art, I still do and I'm not saying I'm an amazing artist or anything I just had NO idea how to make a 3D model, or texture, or script in Flash or Maya. I was pretty lost, but that's a whole other story.
Anyways, I've decided to put all my personal art stuff on hold and I am looking to start a career as an IT technician. Hopefully I'll find something soon. Iv'e applied for almost 100 positions and it's not really going so great at all to be honest. I'm going to get in touch with a few of the recruitment agencies that I've applied with soon, so hopefully they'll be able to help me out and then I can start my career as a computer technician; something that I really enjoy doing. I love building computers, I've done it from a young age and I like helping out others with their tecchie problems lol.
Right, I should be off to bed now. Running in the early morning.

Hello.

I'm a sheep in a pleated skirt.
I just noticed that you were asking how to get 'smooth' tone in photoshop using your tablet.
The trick is to use low opacity with your brushes. Set it also on ' shape dynamics' so the pen pressure on the tablet makes a difference to flow.
Basically the trick is to use low opacity and then work your way up to the tone you want with layers of different colours. Occasionally you might want to 'blur' your work and then add detail in again.
Having said that I like your hatch style of painting on your armor suit.
